Privilege Ibiza: The World’s Biggest Nightclub

Privilege Ibiza: The World’s Biggest Nightclub

Privilege, one of the island’s oldest nightclubs, is recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest club in the world. Privilege is one of the great wonders of the Ibiza clubs scene, with a labyrinth of side rooms to explore, an observation deck-style roof, and more than ten years of party history. The club’s key characteristics are outlined below.

Privilege’s adventure began in 1978 as “Club San Rafael,” continued for more than ten years as “KU,” and finally settled as Privilege in 1993. Throughout its development, it went from being an outdoor pool to the sizable arena it is now. Celebrities including Madonna, Paris Hilton, and Jean-Paul Gaultier have all stopped by.

The main chamber is the size of an airplane hangar, has a 25-meter ceiling, and is equipped with a massive swimming pool in the middle to help you relieve “enthusiasm.” The club was a modest pool and bar that catered to the locals of San Rafael village before it became well-known.

In the 1980s, the location rose to fame under the name KU Club for its hedonistic outdoor gatherings where visitors could dine, swim, and dance the night out to live performances by James Brown, Duran Duran, and Spandau Ballet.

The central party hub on the island is no longer KU by the summer of 1994. Identity issues would only worsen with a complete makeover from KU to Privilege. Thankfully, dance music is in high demand for new owner Jose Maria Echaniz. To re-establish his massive super club’s reputation, he needs a marquee event.

Manumission parties, which were founded by two Manchester-based brothers known for their wild events that include live performances that are sensual explicit, as well as their meticulously prepared productions that incorporate actors and dancers. Manumission began drawing a packed house in 1994 and quickly became one of the island’s most well-liked events.

The Biggest Nightclub in the World

In the following years, Privilege maintained its reputation as one of the island’s most important nightclubs by continuing to draw thousands of visitors each night. The KU era may be passed, but the party culture that was established there remains, and for many, the party never really ends.

The origins of Privilege can also be interpreted in several ways. It appears debauched and wild from some perspectives yet ground-breaking and almost revolutionary from others. Whatever the reasons and motives, Privilege evokes a sense of nostalgia commensurate with its enormous capability. Even though you’ve never had the chance to rave at Manumission, just hearing the phrase makes you feel naughty. From now on, club life in the previous location seems just as alluring.

A privilege is a special place in the world and a must-see if you’re in Ibiza thanks to its long history spanning two decades as KU and 24 years as Privilege, as well as the experience of walking into the enormous club for the first time and coming together with thousands of revelers under one roof.

Please note that Privilege has been closed since 2019, and so far, there are no updates on when it will re-open.
